Formula Security Checks

Products may deviate from specification following rounding, or following post-optimization changes to the ingredient matrix, or to the specification matrix. Some deviations are small and can be tolerated; others must be trapped and reported as errors. The Bio-Security module performs quality assurance checks on formula prior to their implementation for manufacturing. It reports on formulae which fail one or more of the defined security checks, according to rules and tolerances which are user-defined.

In Bio-Security each product is allocated a "tolerance template" and this defines permissible deviations from the product specification. The deviations are expressed as upper and lower tolerances and they may be absolute, or percentage deviations, or may be defined as fixed levels. Up to 1000 nutrients may be controlled.

The template also defines the threshold value for each nutrient unit cost, and products with costs exceeding the threshold are reported. The template also defines the target probability level for meeting specification. Bio-Security reports on products whose nutrient levels fail the desired probability target for meeting specification.

The
Bio-Security check may be performed on selected or on all formulas, and it is possible to mark formulas as "exempt" from the check. A report lists all formulas which fail the security check for one reason or another. The reasons are given and can be investigated on-screen.

Bio-Security™ features reports on:

  • Recomputed nutrient analysis is outside tolerance (using current ingredient matrix)
  • Ingredient is not in formula but has a minimum in the specification
  • Ingredient is in formula but at a level outside the specification
  • Ingredient is in formula but excluded from the specification or is not available in the plant
  • Formula has no matching specification against which to test
